How to use CountIf Function in Excel

This function counts the number of items which match a criteria given by the user.

In laymen language, if you have a set of values with repetitive index, you can count how many times, a particular item is listed.

Lets take an example as below: 


In above figure item's cost on a particular date is given

There are some items which have been listed  multiple times. So, to count how many times, a particular item has been listed, we use Countif function

Thus for above index, we can calculate
